Make your loft space safer and more useful
Loft storage conversions give you a practical way to reclaim wasted space without turning your home upside down. We start by looking at ventilation, insulation levels and safe storage access, and ProjectSmart Loft Solutions uses that assessment to shape the right setup for your home. If boxes, suitcases or keepsakes are sitting directly on insulation, they can squash it down and reduce its effectiveness. That can also increase the chance of condensation, which is the last thing you want around items you're storing for a long time.
We fit raised loft boarding systems that keep your belongings above the insulation and leave room for the loft to breathe properly. Using a strong, BBA-approved system, we create practical storage while maintaining access beneath the platform if needed. With hands-on experience, we know how to turn an awkward roof space into storage you can actually use.

Storage that protects the space below it
Good loft storage is not just about laying boards and calling it done. We create a raised platform that helps protect insulation performance and keeps your stored items off colder surfaces, where dust and damp can become a problem. By keeping belongings above the insulation, you avoid compressing the material, helping it perform as intended while reducing the risk of condensation.
ProjectSmart Loft Solutions also looks at how the whole loft works together, from airflow to access, so the space stays practical after the job is finished. The raised system is designed to provide a solid storage platform while still allowing access beneath the boards when required. That means you get storage that feels solid underfoot and makes better use of the room you already have.
The importance of proper loft ventilation
Insulation helps prevent heat escaping from the living spaces below, but it can also make your loft cooler, which may introduce or worsen existing damp and condensation problems if ventilation is inadequate. A loft can look dry enough on the surface and still hide the early signs of moisture trouble. We check whether your roof has a breathable membrane, because that affects whether lap vents are needed to improve airflow through the roof covering.
These vents are fitted between sections of non-breathable membrane to help air move in and out of the loft. We also make sure there is a sufficient gap at the eaves so air can travel between the loft and the outside at gutter level. If soffit ventilation would help, we will explain why and recommend the most suitable solution. That honest advice helps you avoid storing valuable belongings in a space that could become cold, stale or damp over time, whether you are using raised boarding or adding truss shelving to make better use of the loft space.
